Diablo Water Ski Club (DWSC) is a non profit corporation formed generally to promote water sports. It is a recreational club made up of members who are involved in the various forms of towed water sports. Our members range from recreational to amateur slalom skiers, including wake boarders, knee boarders, wake surfers, and tricks. The Club was formed on September 25, 1957. Through the efforts of its members, it is one of the finest facilities of its kind in the Sacramento Delta.
Our facilities are located on the Sacramento Delta on Old River, South of the closest marina, being Holland Riverside Marina, in Brentwood, CA. On Google Maps, enter 7000 Holland Trail Rd. Brentwood, CA (marina address). Look East on Rock Slough to Old River. Look SS/E on Old River until you see a whale shaped island to the left. That is the club island. Other nearby marinas are Discovery Bay to the South, Orwood Marina to the West, Bull Frog Marina to the East, and numerous facilities on Bethel Island to the North.
The North side of our leased island, has three docks, leading to our camp grounds, and two buildings. There are no bathroom facilities on the island, however facilities at the marina are only 5 minutes away by boat. There's no power on the island, but there is wiring for lighting and other needs to be connected to your portable generator. Several picnic tables and chairs are always available for dinning and lounging. Barbeques are also available.
The South side of the island is where the surveyed slalom course is situated between the island and a tulle berm that provides immediate breakdown of boat wakes. Our course runs East/West. Therefore, the predominantly N/W winds do not affect the smoothness of the course. The island continues to protect the course from the rare N/E winds.
There are two docks for the slalom course that lead to a large deck. Half the deck is covered, and has a changing room. There are benches, chairs, and a large picnic table. In order to prevent damage to the decking from charcoal barbeques, there is a large gas grill provided, with a large granite counter top.
No matter which side of the island suits your needs best, it's always nice to have a place to unload your coolers, and whatever equipment you don't want in the boat when you go out for some fun on the water, either on the course, or for a river run. Or it's nice to just be able to stretch your legs, while your group takes turns out on the water in an uncrowded boat. There are no trails to access either side of the island by land.
Our limited membership, allows for little or no wait times for using the course. Some of our members are week day skiers, while some are not course skiers. That allows for non crowded use of the facilities at most times, including week ends. The Holiday weekends on occassion, attract more members who may or may not camp over night. These gatherings become a great social event.
Members enjoy attending the majority of our 12 monthly meetings each year. Periodic social events sometimes take the place of a meeting. Meetings are currently held at Consumer Learning Center at 1918 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA on the first Monday of each month. The board meeting begins at 7:00 pm with the general meeting beginning at 7:30 pm. For those interested in becoming a member, you are welcome to join us either at a meeting or at the island facilities. Be sure to check this web site for any changes on meeting dates, or you may phone Jim Potter at (925) 634-7261.
